Three weeks winter break had finally passed and it's the new semester already. In this new semester, each of us need to pitch a thesis game either individually nor in a team. Then afterward, the faculty will pick some of the game idea and we will prototype those chosen game ideas in 3 weeks, presented it to faculty and industry, then final game ideas will be chosen for our thesis game. This will be a long process - 1,5 year.
I don't really have a game idea but I have a game mechanics that I think will be very fun. That is different perspective in 3-D and 2-D camera. My idea is we use this different perspective of 3-D and 2-D camera for our objective like Crush 3D for NDS where player switch between 3-D to 2-D world for their purpose. But more than the perspective differences, I want to explore more like the shape and the size of the object in 2-D and 3-D camera. For example, in 3-D world a mug is a mug. In 2-D camera, however, the mug may look like a 2-D mug or 2-D rectangle depends on which side we see it. An object in 2-D camera may be in fact 2 objects where the other object is placed behind the front-object. Also, the size of an object in 3-D camera seems different depending how far the object is from our position. So far I can only think about the different of shape, size and perspective of objects in 3-D and 2-D camera. There should be more to explore.
Can I pitch this? I am not sure. This is only a mechanics - no game play... Of course I can pitch my thesis game for the Game Design 1 class but I think the game is too big and too complicated for us to finish it within 1,5 year and only with a team of 10 or less. I will mention about my game idea for Game Design 1 thesis in another post.
