Vinyl demo movie for EAE days

So for the EAE days one next Tuesday, we prototyped the new mechanics of our game. We had static balls triggered the echo sound effect, the grinding pipe doing the grinding-like noise and the wall doing chorus sound effect. Overall it gave a cool feeling and unfortunately, more boring. We needed more than this audio manipulation!

JP, the industry panel member, who tested our first prototype, mentioned that we lost the major feature in our previous game which he liked: the audio pitch manipulation based on the character movement. He mentioned that the new prototype wasn’t as engaging as our original prototype. He sat with us during the EAE days for more than 30 minutes and discussed about our game idea. It was very nice of him. He stressed the audio pitch manipulation which made the music sounded bad was the unique selling point of our game. Shall we made the audio sound better, why don’t we just make an audio multimedia playback?

Well, indeed in this prototype we lost something that we had in the previous prototype: the audio pitch which is related to the player movement and the volume manipulation. We had some issue with the collision detection where the collision didn't work anymore when the player speed was too fast. And we wanted the audio remixing to be apparent so we want the volume to be always maximum.

So far, our game design wasn't finalized yet. We still needed to iterate it more and more to have a better game. We absolutely wanted to re-implement the audio pitch and relate the left-right movement into something else than the audio volume. The audio channel, maybe?

Now that Zeph had already brought in a DJ into our team: Tadas, we could use a better audio remixing and correlate the game play better to the audio. So this game will be more into DJ audio manipulation game.

Now it reminded me. Roger had a concern about our game: this is not a game! Well, in some part, indeed it feels this is not a game at all. There is no goal and no rule. There was only an obstacle. One of the thing we needed to discuss was indeed to implement the scoring system or such to make this into a game.

We had a discussion before to implement the scoring system and leader board online or using the score as money to get player/UI update. So far, from what I heard from Alice, Brianne, the art producer were going to drop out the idea of the character/UI upgrade. Moreover, so far we had only discussed the mechanics which was still changing all the time. Well, the closest goal at the moment was to present this prototype to the EAE days and gathered as much feedback as we can.
